“ Carnival Ceremonies ”

The ritual is renewed through its celebration; Andean identity is immortalized in the ceremony. The book gifts us with that instant when the eye pauses and records the very breath of a people.

The performance chooses a natural and sacred space to depict the relationship with the earth, Pacha. The devils' attire combines masks, images, embroidery, inlays, and colors that signify carnival, a foreign custom that, over time, acquired its own nuances and became an expression of our Indigenous, Spanish, and Creole peoples. Likewise, the shadows that complete the images place us in the ancestral realm, understood as that communal past that watches from above, symbolizing the sacred. In this way, the text introduces us to the ritual itself, which unites history and the present.
